It is not easy to find screws you can use outdoors, where they are exposed to direct sunlight, rain, hail and wind, with temperatures ranging from freezing cold to boiling hot. Imagine having to withstand all that – day in, day out – while keeping a tight hold on the wood project at hand.
That is why we created Shield Outdoor. It is a sort of superhero’s cloak in the form of an EP5 coating, ensuring that the screws are much more robust to all external influences. Thanks to this corrosion-resistant coating, Shield Outdoor screws are many times stronger and more resistant than, for example, stainless steel screws.
Shield Outdoor (Blackline) screws have an ETA quality mark and are C4-certified (highest standard of corrosion protection).
Woodies® Ultimate universal screws (flat head, fully threaded and partly threaded), timber construction screws (button head) and decking screws are all available in Shield Outdoor (bronze) and Shield Outdoor Blackline (black) versions. The Shield Outdoor Blackline range also includes hinge screws, weatherboard screws and cylindrical-head universal screws.
Salt spray test
This commonly applied test method assesses the corrosion resistance of screws by subjecting them to a continuous spray of saline solution. The chart below compares the performance of the corrosion-resistance coating of Woodies® Ultimate Shield Outdoor screws against the corrosion resistance performance of a range of coated stainless steel screws.
